Sustainability

We make a positive impact with the materials we choose, our production methods, and the environmental causes we give back to.

Rolls of leather

Our leather is naturally sustainable.

One of the most surprising things about our leather is how naturally sustainable it is. It starts with giving a second life to cattle hides, a by-product of the beef industry. Each year in the U.S. alone, over 2 billion pounds of hides could end up in landfills. Instead, these hides are repurposed into durable, long-lasting leather goods, making the most of our resources.

And that's just the beginning. Our leather is vegetable-tanned with plant-based ingredients, avoiding the toxic chemicals found in most of the world’s leather. The waste from production is treated and recycled, and the finished leather biodegrades safely at the end of its life. We reduce our environmental impact even further by sourcing our leather domestically. With that, we support a nearby small business and reduce the energy required for transportation.

Light gray Woolsters on table with water glass

Our Merino wool is renewable and biodegradable.

Our Woolsters are made from 100% Merino wool, the highest quality wool on the market. The material is milled in Germany using sheep’s wool, water, and plant-based textile dyes. The result is a beautiful material that is renewable, sustainably manufactured, and biodegradable. It's also the ideal material for coasters.

We offer a plant-based alternative.

Most vegan “leather” is made from plastic, which is toxic for workers during production and damaging to the planet over time. These plastics are created from non-renewable crude oil. They also release excess carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Even worse, plastic products can take over 500 years to break down, releasing harmful chemicals as they decompose.

Our 100% bio-based material contains zero plastics, MIRUM® (made by NFW). It's made from natural rubber and coconut fiber and has properties similar to our leather. Because it’s made from plants, MIRUM® is both sustainable and circular. At the end of its life, we can disassemble the product and feed the material back into the earth as nutrients. This innovative process helps grow new plants for future use.

We minimize our carbon footprint with sustainable packaging.

Our boxes are 100% recyclable and made from recycled paper pulp. Our insert cards are also fully recyclable. Our canvas bags are made with natural cotton fiber and can be recycled or repurposed.

We limit our use of plastic as much as possible and our cotton and paper materials are all domestically sourced.

We give back to make an impact.

We partner with three environmental nonprofits to help protect and restore the great outdoors. The funds we raise support ocean plastic cleanup, wildfire prevention, and salmon waterway restoration.

20% of sales from these products help further the missions of the environmental organizations that inspired their designs.
